woops [Sep. 3rd, 2006|01:42 pm]
[Current Location |Brooklyn NY]
[Current Mood | anxious]
[Current Music |Neverevereverdid - yacht remix]

Friends! Just to prove that we didnt get swept away by myspace. Here we are. Staying loyal to our blogging roots! So many many mountains of things have happened in our world since we last wrote here. We played a huge big fat American and European tour. We grew beards' shaved them off (or at least some of us did).. Got into Sudoko and Ebay and discovered that great card game called set. Probably the biggest occurance, was the fact of Iso and Tara are no longer a part of the band. This has been a weird and hard time for al lof us. But we are soldiering through and are pleased to report that our 3rd record is well underway and sounding great. Yet again expect the unexpected, and even though we have written 12 or more songs we still have no idea what it will end up sounding like. That said it is definitely really upbeat and as a whole much more dance orientated than our previous records. We are gonna work on it some more after this tour finishes in New York, (ooh how exotic) and then we will do a little more polishing over the New Year before we get it all done in January. For those of you in the States, you should definitely come along to this forthcoming tour (check dates on our myspace!), as we are gonna be playing 8 or 10 songs that are from said album, so it is bound to be messy and exciting for all. OK back to the porta studio! More news soon! I promise. love. cameron

This is where I start jogging [Nov. 29th, 2005|07:31 am]
[Current Mood | calm]
[Current Music |Sun Ra - Spaceship Lullaby]

My brain feels like a large bowl of trifle (in Australia that is a desert which is a mixture of sponge cake, Jelly, Custard and sherry, a celebration or amalgamation of leftovers).
We left home on september 21. It is now november 22. 2 months never really felt like so long. Touring so much this year has meant that I have kinda forgotten who i am. Moments blend together.
You know the drill.
You spend so many of your waking hours in transit; between hotels, crammed into vans and sampling expensive perfumes in the duty free sections of airports, that you are inadvertently robbed of that place that is you. Home.
So, you try to adjust by adorning your suitcase with remnants of your life at home.
A scarf made by the one you love, some photo booth photos and a vegemite sticker on your discman. Contact with home is irregular due to the nature of every day being so random. Making it impossible to keep track of just what day it is and just what time the sun is setting behind the tree in your backyard. You cannot help but become totally neurotic. You obsess about the most banal things. Like which state in America has the best potato chips, the swedish chocolate bar called plop and the way that the Icelandic say Thankyou.
You lose everything. I lost my wallet (denver) , my mobile phone (London) and my Ipod (stolen somewhere near the colloseum).
I cannot figure out whether I have more or less patience. One one hand an infinite amount of crap occurances have plagued me, On a ferry across the Irish Sea I fell asleep in chewing gum. In Chicago we got a flat tyre which due to unforeseen circumstances, which meant that we were stranded through the night and day for 15 hours, someone stood in dog shit. In Berlin, someone put all our cases in dog shit right before we put them in the taxi.
You are addicted to alchohol, coffee and salami. You become so unfit, that running for 40 m up the slightest of inclines, leaves you gasping. I have put on two dress sizes. I find my self using the travelator at the airport, whereas in the past that would have disgusted me.
You meet many bands going through the same shit as you and you make lifelong bonds. This year somewhere in the world we made friends with Dr Dog, Wolf Parade, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Fiery Furnaces, Love is All, Hermstad, Clue to Kalo, Au Revoir Simone & The Semi-finalists. All great bands and inspiring folks. WHom, I hope we can spend more than 2 nights in the basement of a bar with sometime in the coming years...
But above all of the shitness, is the huge privilege that we have been bestowed with, that is to travel around the world playing our songs, which I never actually imagined we would get the chance to do. Case in point. Last week, we played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. On the way from the airport to the venue, our host, Warren told us that we were the first independent band to tour their since fugazi in 1996.
That was such an honourable experience and the perfect way to end what was one of the most dementing and mind expanding experience i have ever had.
Now, if only we can not do it for a few years.....

Jamie meets his long lost cousin [Oct. 21st, 2005|10:13 pm]
This is one from the vaults - our last tour [may-june '05] concided with the launch of the final star wars, an dthis was taken outside the cinema where we saw it. The film sucked [not as much as the previous one though!], but this emotional reunion was very memorable.

Dr Dog destroy Boston [Oct. 14th, 2005|07:03 pm]
We have all watched Dr Dog play every night of this tour, and it never sucks. I have to watch how loud I sing along now, the other night I had no voice left to sing my one line in "Cemetery".

Haima - 24/7 Sound Dude [Oct. 14th, 2005|06:56 pm]
Haima finds time in the van to go over some mixes, in between running the AIH live sound and skipping like a girl through the Taco Cabana carpark after a few cheap margaritas.

The aih your van is more like the mobile headquarters of a highly-professional entertainment conglomerate, with deals on the go 24-7. Not just a bunch of braindead vegetables giggling uncontrollably at the fifth screening of Wayne's World. Oh no.

DJ Booth, Cleveland Airport Motel Bar [Oct. 14th, 2005|06:40 pm]
Sam, James and Kellie found themselves in this bar at the Cleveland Airport Days Inn drinking white russians at 3am. We were lured there by the fact that it has a bar with windows looking into the hotel pool - under the water! - although sadly the pool was closed...

Good coffee is very hard to find here in the ol' US of A, especially on the highway. Impossible in fact! Most times we're excited just to find a Starbucks, where one must face the very difficult choice between upholding one's ideals or upholding one's eyelids.

US Roadside diners, in decreasing order of goodness:

Good:
Waffle House

Bad:
Denny's
International House Of Pancakes
Bob Evans

Evil:
Cracker Barrel [would have ranked higher last tour, before we found out they only recently abandoned segregated seating!]

Zach Dog shows us the Dr Dog studio [Oct. 14th, 2005|06:21 pm]
Dr Dog have just found a new studio elsewhere in Philadelphia, but this basement - underneath Zach's house - was where they recorded "Easybeat", and is therefore a place of immense music-historical significance. Indeed it was recorded on this very 8-track.

For music nerds, their NEW studio features a mixing desk formerly used at Sigma studios, home of the Philly soul sound!!
